Curriculum > Creative Curriculum®
Lehigh Children’s Academy teachers use the Creative Curriculum® for Infants, Toddlers and Twos, and the Creative Curriculum® for Preschoolers. Creative Curriculum® is a comprehensive early childhood educational system that emphasizes a practical, easy to understand approach to education. Creative Curriculum® promotes the use of interest areas as a way of providing experiences that promote cognitive, social, physical and language development.
The philosophy behind the Creative Curriculum® is that young children learn best by doing. Creative Curriculum® focuses on learning by doing and encourages active thinking, experimenting to find out how things work and learning firsthand about the world. Lehigh Children’s Academy’s goal is to help children become enthusiastic, independent, self-confident, inquisitive learners.
Teaching Strategies GOLD
Lehigh Children’s Academy uses Teaching Strategies GOLD®, an authentic, ongoing observational system for assessing children from birth through kindergarten. Teaching Strategies GOLD® is based on 38 objectives that include predictors of school success and are aligned with state early learning standards. These objectives are the heart of the system— Lehigh Children’s Academy teachers use them to focus their observations as they gather information to make classroom decisions. Lehigh Children’s Academy teachers use Teaching Strategies GOLD® as a guide to identify children’s developmental levels and describe children’s knowledge, skills and behaviors.
Handwriting Without Tears®
Handwriting Without Tears® is incorporated into our curriculum at Lehigh Children’s Academy. The National Association for the Education of Young Children recommends that newborn infants to children through age eight learn best from methods that are consistent with developmentally appropriate practice.
Handwriting Without Tears® was developed by an occupational therapist and teaches handwriting skills using developmentally appropriate practice and multisensory approaches. This method teaches the easiest skills first and builds on what your child has learned. Such instruction helps your child develop good consistent habits for size, letter formation, and letter placement, and master handwriting more quickly. Handwriting Without Tears® aims to make legible and fluent handwriting an easy and automatic skill for your child. Additionally, your child will learn developmentally appropriate sign language to increase communication in diverse areas.
